During the autumn half term 15 pupils from Year 9 and 11 took part in a series of workshops called ‘Design Engineer Construct’ created by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC). The workshops are designed to provide pupils with an insight into the exciting career opportunities within the construction industry.
During the workshops, pupils took on the role of professionals such as architects, structural engineers, site engineers, building and land surveyors, project managers, sustainability managers and inclusive designers whilst working with leading industry experts and professional colleagues from Mace, Balfour Beatty, Allies and Morrison, Arup and Buro Happold to design and create their own 3D building using the latest industry software.
On the 23rd January 2017, all of the work from participating schools was exhibited at, ‘The Podium Bar & Kitchen‘ Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The evening was a success with full attendance and support from visitors including pupils, head teachers and industry professionals. The work on display was fantastic and all of the guests and visitors were able to view a 3D digital manipulation of the buildings through a virtual reality goggle.
