What we need to tell you about our results

Attainment 8

C

A pupil’s Attainment 8 score measures the pupil’s attainment across a defined basket of 8 qualifications. The eight qualifications must include Mathematics and English and three of History, Geography, the Sciences and a language.
A school’s Attainment 8 score is the average of all its pupils’ individual Attainment 8 scores.
Progress 8

At the moment this is an estimate using the 2015 expected scores. The Department for Education will not provide the actual scores in December using 2016 attainment. However as overall pass rates haven’t changed much, the estimate is likely to be quite accurate.

+0.5

A school’s Progress 8 score measures the progress its pupils make between 11 and 16.

A pupil’s Progress 8 score is worked out by looking at the difference between the pupil’s actual Attainment 8 score and their expected score (the average attainment score of similar pupils nationally).

A school’s Progress 8 score is the average of all its pupils’ individual Progress 8 scores.

If a school has a Progress 8 score of +0.5 it means its pupils average progress is half a grade above the national average.
