Careers Education Advice and Guidance

In line with our ethos and vision, our approach to careers information, advice and guidance is varied (different approaches suit different students) and inclusive (all students are offered information and impartial advice and guidance)

Here are some of the things we do:

An external careers adviser comes in 1 day a week to see students individually.

Information about different options after SSA are displayed prominently in our school and on our school website.

A careers fair is held each autumn for all year 11 students and their parents / carers.

We offer all year 10 students the chance to do work experience in term time.

Our curriculum includes topics relating to work, life skills and careers and teachers make links to students’ own experiences.

We have formed working partnerships with some excellent external organisations such as Sponsors for Educational Opportunity who have linked some of our highest achieving year 11 students with external academic and working mentors.

We have supported some students to take up places on the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, and others to do summer activities including independent living, expeditions and community work, with an organisation called The Challenge. Such outside school opportunities develop life skills and broaden students’ thinking about their futures.

We recommend various external websites www.careersbox.co.uk which has great short videos and brief information about lots of jobs and careers. Also look at www.nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk which is the national government website.
for apprenticeships, look at www.apprenticeships.org.uk.
