Previous work experience consisted of 1 week experience in the school holidays. This was done to minimise disruption to learning because we want our pupils to remain in their lessons for as much of the school year as possible. However having this work experience in the holidays meant that not every pupil took part.
Recently the Department for Education updated the statutory guidance on work experience and have said schools should offer students ‘experiences of the workplace’ across the duration of their education.
From this academic year onwards each year group gets an experience of the workplace in the form of a work place visit or professionals visiting the school. This will be embedded through Drop Down Day activities, minimising the disruption to learning and enabling every pupil to take part. We will no longer be hosting the traditional 1 week of work experience at the end of Year 10 during the summer break.
