Departmental Assessment Procedure 2021
In order to support the examination boards in the process of awarding grades, we have developed a range of assessments for students who would normally be sitting GCSE exams this summer. The subject documents contain the key guidelines on how the Year 11 students (and Year 10 MFL students) will be assessed in each subject which reflect the different requirements of the GCSE specification within each subject area.
Students will be completing a range of different assessments which will begin when they return after the Easter break on the 19th April. The areas of study which students need to revise in order to complete the assessments are detailed within each subject document.
Grades will be awarded based on a range of evidence including new questions set by the exam boards this year; questions from past exam papers; Non-Examined Assessment (NEA or often called coursework) in applicable subjects such as Drama, Music, Technology and Art and Pre-Public Exams (mocks) sat in November 2020. Departments will be using GCSE mark schemes and grade descriptors in order to accurately assess student attainment. We will also be using student work produced in centre-devised tasks that reflect the specification, that follow the same format as the exam boards and have been marked in a way that reflects exam board mark schemes. This includes staff ‘blind’ marking so they don’t know which students they are assessing and a rigorous moderation process to ensure consistency. Assessments will be sat in controlled conditions and work will be retained for the purposes of external quality assurance and appeals.
We have put a considerable amount of effort into these processes and closely followed the guidance from Ofqual. All these measures will ensure that the teacher assessed grades are fair, consistent with previous standards and impartial.
