In 2020, the NHS Digital report: Mental Health of Children and Young People in England found a sharp increase in children experiencing mental health difficulties.
We know how important it is to support our school community in practising good mental health and wellbeing – that’s why we’ve introduced our students, staff and parents alike to Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) at both of our school sites. Our on site EMPHs are here to provide us with emotional and therapeutic support such as:
- advise on sleep hygiene, problem solving and panic attacks
- education in managing anxiety and depression
- approaches to improve emotional health and wellbeing
- advising and signposting staff to ensure children and young people get the right support
More information on each of our EMHP services can be viewed below.
Upton Lane – Place2Be’s Place2Talk
Why is Place2Talk useful?
Sometimes young people can feel particularly sad, confused, scared or angry.
Maybe something difficult happened at home, like losing a family member or parents separating. Or perhaps they’re struggling with something at school, like bullying.
This can make them behave differently, lose confidence in themselves or find it difficult to concentrate in class.
Place2Talk is there to help young people find ways to cope, so their worries don’t get in the way of their friendships, their learning or how they feel about themselves.
What does Place2Talk do?
Place2Be’s professionals work with young people one-to-one or in small groups, giving regular support for pupils who need it.
Young people can also book a short appointment to talk about any problems or worries they have.
Place2Be also provides support and advice for parents and carers, as well as teachers and school staff.
How can I use the Place2Talk service?
Arefa Attan is Upton Lane’s Mental Health Practitioner and is on site every Tuesday and Wednesday between 8.30am-4.30pm.
Students can access the Place2Talk service by using the post-box which is located outside of the Upton Lane School Reception. To request a 15-30 minute session please fill in a Place2Talk slip and post it into the box. Arefa will then email you to confirm your appointment.
Alternatively, if you have any other questions please email Arefa at firstname.lastname@example.org
