Empowering Year 10 Students with Real-World Skills
KPMG Workplace Scenarios Workshop
On Tuesday 21st January, Year 10 Set 2 Maths students from Upton Lane and Grosvenor Road participated in an inspiring KPMG-led workshop designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and workplace readiness. This enriching event unfolded over two sessions, with the morning workshop held at Upton Lane and the afternoon session at Grosvenor Road.
Eight volunteers from KPMG dedicated their time and expertise to lead this two-hour workshop at each site. They provided students with a deeper understanding of opportunities in finance and the exciting career pathways available at KPMG.
The workshop challenged students with a real-world business brief focused on solving a recycling issue using emerging technologies. Pupils chose from three briefs and collaborated to explore innovative solutions involving technologies like AI, blockchain, smart cities, and virtual robots. This exercise fostered problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills as students worked together to present their ideas to the KPMG volunteers.
The quality of presentations and students’ willingness to step out of their comfort zones left a lasting impression on the KPMG staff. Each presentation was followed by constructive feedback, helping students reflect on their problem-solving approach and teamwork dynamics.
A special highlight of the day was the participation of Vrajesh, a former student of SSA and now a KPMG alumnus. Vrajesh shared his inspiring journey from SSA to KPMG, offering invaluable advice and motivation to the students.
One student shared their thoughts on the workshop:
"I do not often find myself communicating very well with others, however I was given the opportunity to improve my communication skills with others, which was really great! I really enjoyed the workshop and learning more about KPMG."
The KPMG Workplace Scenarios Workshop was a resounding success, equipping students with essential skills for the future and sparking interest in finance and technology careers. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the KPMG volunteers and Vrajesh for making this event both educational and memorable for our students.
