On 11th February, students participated in their second Enrichment Day of the year, with a wide range of activities designed to enhance their knowledge and skills across multiple subjects. Each year group took part in engaging and interactive sessions, providing valuable learning experiences outside the classroom.

Year 7: A Journey Through Medieval England

The History Department took all Year 7 students on an exciting day trip to Canterbury, where they explored key historical sites to gain a deeper understanding of Medieval England. Students visited the iconic Canterbury Cathedral, the medieval city walls, and the famous city gates. They also toured the medieval town center and had the opportunity to explore Canterbury Castle and the Abbey. The visit provided students with an immersive experience of history, making the subject come alive in front of them.

Year 8: Exploring French Culture

Year 8 students took part in five engaging sessions that explored various aspects of French culture. From learning the basics of the French language to exploring the delights of French food, students were given a holistic view of the country. The sessions also covered French music and the geography of France, deepening their appreciation of the country’s rich history. Students explored how languages evolve and are interwoven with history, particularly the influence of English and French languages on each other.

Year 9: Building for the Future in the Enterprise Challenge

Year 9 students took on an exciting challenge led by the Design and Technology Department. Divided into teams, they built innovative structures using recycled materials. The enterprise challenge aimed to inspire creativity and sustainability, while students gained hands-on experience in teamwork, problem-solving, and design. The project allowed them to reflect on how the materials they use every day can be repurposed to create something new and valuable.

Year 10: Preparing for the Future Workforce

Year 10 students participated in a career-focused simulation, providing them with valuable insight into the workplace. The interactive sessions helped students understand the apprenticeship application process, build interview resilience, and enhance their professional skills. They worked on developing essential tools such as CV writing, cover letter crafting, and perfecting their use of the STAR technique, which helps structure responses during interviews. The experience helped students prepare for future job applications and develop a strong foundation for their career paths.

Year 11: Mastering Study Skills for Exam Success

Year 11 students engaged in a series of focused sessions designed to improve their study techniques and prepare for the upcoming exam season. They learned how to create personalised revision timetables, explore different methods of effective revision, and the benefits of using flashcards and self-quizzing. Students also practised creating mind maps, which helped them organise their knowledge in a clear and structured way. These practical tools and strategies will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their revision efforts in the lead-up to their exams.

Enrichment Day was a resounding success, offering students across all year groups a chance to expand their knowledge, develop new skills, and prepare for their academic and professional futures. The day was filled with enthusiasm, learning, and a sense of achievement, and the school looks forward to more enriching experiences in the future.
