World Book Day 2025 has been a fantastic celebration of literature, creativity, and the joy of reading! Here's a look at some of the exciting activities that took place throughout the day:

Book Token Distribution

To kick off the celebration, we distributed World Book Day book tokens to all students in Years 7, 8, and 9 during their library reading lessons. These tokens could be exchanged for a wide variety of books either in the school libraries or at participating local bookshops. Across both sites, approximately 100 tokens were exchanged—a wonderful show of enthusiasm for reading!

A big thank you to our Student Library Ambassadors, who were instrumental in helping to distribute the tokens and make the event a success. Their enthusiasm and hard work truly made the day special.

Some memorable comments from students included:

  • "Is this my book now?"
  • "Can I keep it forever?"
  • "Wow!"

We love seeing such excitement about reading!

Short Story Competition

Our short story competition was a highlight, with the challenge of writing a story in exactly fifty words. We received some creative and imaginative entries, and we're excited to share that many of these short stories could be featured on our school social media accounts soon—keep an eye out for those! It’s amazing how much creativity can be packed into just fifty words!

Fictional Character Competition

We also ran a fun competition involving props and pictures. Teaching staff joined in the fun by carrying items or images representing fictional characters. Students had to ask yes/no questions to figure out who we were. Some of the most popular guesses included the wizard from The Lord of the Rings and the heroine from Northern Lights. The competition had students visiting the library to find clues, making it a great way to get everyone involved in discovering new characters and stories!

Looking Ahead

World Book Day was a success thanks to the enthusiasm of our students and staff. We hope it sparked a renewed love for reading in everyone who participated, and we’re already excited to see what next year’s celebration will bring.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the activities, and remember—whether it’s reading a book, writing a story, or guessing a character, books can take you anywhere!

Happy reading!
