DELL Big Idea Workshop Sparks Innovation and Teamwork Among Year 9 Students
Year 9 Set 1 students from both Stratford School Academy sites recently participated in the DELL Big Idea Workshop in collaboration with The Talent Foundry, a unique event designed to foster creativity, teamwork, and effective communication skills among young innovators.
Held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:20 PM, the workshop offered students the opportunity to work as teams in a competitive, real-world challenge. Divided into groups, the students were tasked with designing a technological product aimed at solving a current local issue. The exercise focused not only on innovation but also on developing communication skills, with each team required to present their product ideas through an elevator pitch – a brief and impactful presentation designed to capture the essence of their ideas.
Key Highlights of the Event:
-
Communication Development: Students gained valuable experience in presenting and articulating their ideas to an audience, developing the skills necessary for clear and effective communication.
-
Innovation in Action: Groups brainstormed and conceptualized technology-driven solutions to solve local challenges. Among the innovative ideas presented were:
-
A road system that generates electricity through kinetic energy as cars pass over specialized panels.
-
A pen powered by magnets that produces infinite ink, helping to reduce plastic waste.
-
These standout concepts showcased the students’ ability to think creatively while addressing some of today’s most pressing environmental and societal issues.
Quote from Participant:
“I found the workshop fun and was able to work with people from Grosvenor Road. The workshop really helped me to come out of my shell,” said UL, a Year 9 student. “It was a great opportunity to push my boundaries and collaborate with others on something meaningful.”
The event was supported by teachers Ms Green, Ms. Ali, Ms. Panesar, and Ms. Rattan, who guided students throughout the day and helped nurture their ideas into tangible, exciting concepts.
