Year 9 Girls Shine at STEMETTES Coding Challenge
On Thursday 17th October, 11 of our Year 9 girls had an exciting opportunity to participate in a coding challenge hosted by STEMETTES at Akamai Technologies in Soho.
STEMETTES, a charity focused on inspiring young women to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), organized the event, bringing together bright young minds from various schools.
During the visit, our students gained valuable insights into the world of computer science and technology careers.
They learned about the different departments within the tech industry and had the chance to experience what it’s like to work on real-world projects.
Our students competed against two other schools of Year 10 girls in a thrilling challenge to design and build a website for an eyewear company using HTML coding.
After hours of creative problem-solving, coding, and teamwork, the students presented their finished websites to a panel of judges, which included the director of Akamai Technologies.
The competition featured four award categories:
- Judges Award
- Judges Runner-Up
- People's Award
- People's Runner-Up
We are incredibly proud to announce that our students triumphed in multiple categories! They won the Judges Award, the Judges Runner-Up Award, and the People's Runner-Up Award.
A special congratulations goes to Saiyeda and Farabi, who won the overall competition, showcasing their incredible talent and hard work.
This event was a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their coding skills, build their confidence, and explore the exciting possibilities in STEAM careers.
A huge well done to all the girls who took part—you have made the school proud!
Informative Coffee Morning on Emotional Regulation
On Wednesday 16th October, Sarah Parkinson, our Educational Psychologist, led a coffee morning in the library at the Grosvenor Road site. The session focused on supporting your child’s behaviour and emotional regulation.
During this session, Sarah discussed the challenges children and young people face today, such as the impacts of COVID-19, social media, and the climate crisis. She introduced strategies like Emotion Coaching, which helps children understand and manage their emotions, moving from a state of ‘fight, flight, or freeze’ to thinking rationally.
Sarah emphasized the importance of recognizing and validating children’s emotions, setting limits on behaviour, and problem-solving together. The event was well attended by over 25 parents, who found the session informative and extremely useful.
