Winter Reading Challenge Inspires Students to Explore New Worlds
Students from all years across both campuses embraced the magic of storytelling in the annual Winter Reading Challenge. This year's event, running from October 25, 2024, to January 7, 2025, encouraged participants to dive into a diverse range of genres and reflect on their reading experiences in creative ways.
The challenge tasked students with reading one book from each of the following genres: historical fiction, fantasy, graphic novel, and non-fiction (over 100 pages). To deepen their engagement, students completed a series of reflective activities:
- Historical Fiction: Write a quote that encapsulates the historical period of the book.
- Graphic Novel: Identify two skills of the protagonist.
- Fantasy: Create an alternative ending of at least 100 words.
- Non-Fiction: Share three new facts learned from the book.

Zarwa M of class 8GR expressed the essence of the challenge, stating, "The Winter Reading Challenge is more than just ticking books off a list—it’s a journey into magical realms, historical moments, and inspiring lives. It’s about opening a book and stepping into a world where your imagination can soar, your mind can grow, and your heart can connect with characters who teach you about courage, resilience, and empathy. Through every page, you discover not only new stories but also new perspectives that challenge and inspire you. This challenge isn’t just about reading—it’s about embracing the power of stories to change the way you see the world and yourself."
The challenge not only celebrated the joy of reading but also promoted critical thinking, creativity, and the appreciation of different literary genres. Students who completed the challenge shared their reflections, showcasing their analytical skills and creative insights.
As the winter months drew to a close, the challenge left a lasting impact, igniting a passion for reading and storytelling that promises to carry on throughout the year.
